Short Sales – Do you know anything?
I got an interesting phone call today from a nice young lady who had only 2 questions for me. Her first one was “Do you know anything about short sales?”
Whenever I am posed that question I have to remember that the word short sale is still foreign to most people. Although I hear it, type it, work it, and explain it to the tune of 500+ times per day (just an estimate!) the average homeowner may not have ever even heard the word and probably doesn’t really know what it means.
Blame it on too much caffeine, blame it on unknown forces, blame it on me but as much as I tried to stay in my seat and just answer a simple “Yes, most of my business is short sales and I am a short sale agent…” I just couldn’t.
Instead I began running through an entirely un-humble speech about short sales, the entire process, how we haven’t lost anyone yet this year (knock on wood!), the anti-deficiency law in Arizona, the seminars & webinars about short sales that I teach, the endless list of short sale resources available to my clients, why a short sale is better than a foreclosure, etc.etc. After what was probably like 3-4 minutes of using up a lot of oxygen I finally paused (ran out of breath really) and let her have a word in.
“Uh, ok. So do you want to buy some advertising in the yellow pages then?”
Yikes.
Does anyone even use a phone book anymore for anything other than propping up broken furniture?
